This reunion function is hosted by the 1 RAR Association and is for all ex 1 RAR and partners to come together and celebrate the award of the MUC to the 1 RAR OP SOLACE Battle Group. It is not limited to OP SOLACE veterans or 1 RAR Association members.

Location. The Loft Bar at the Seaview Hotel Townsville.

When. Saturday 5 Apr 25 commencing at 1730.

Dress. Casual.

Food and drinks. The 1 RAR Association will provide some platters of food. Drinks may be purchased from the bar.

Registration. You need to register for this event for catering purposes. Registration is on the 1 RAR Association website home page, 1rar.asn.au, under the heading of Upcoming Events. Click the DETAILS tab then the REGISTRATION tab and follow the instructions. Ensure you indicate if you are bringing a partner.  You can also see who else is attending.

Registration closes 1159h on 25 Mar 25; however, we would like you to register by 1 Mar as we will need to cancel if we don’t have 50 attendees at that time.

The 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, has been awarded the prestigious Meritorious Unit Citation for its exceptional service during Operation SOLACE in Somalia in 1992-1993 as part of the United Task Force (UNITAF). The citation recognises the battalion's professionalism, courage, and dedication in a challenging and often hostile environment. During the operation, the 1st Battalion played a crucial role in restoring order and providing humanitarian assistance to the Somali people in the Bai Province. They faced numerous dangers, including armed militia, famine and disease outbreaks, and difficult living conditions. Despite these challenges, the battalion consistently demonstrated the highest standards of conduct and achieved their mission.
